Pediatrician Number 4

Clayton came home from work last night with a pile of papers, all excited about the health insurance meeting that he had at work. He starts to tell me the "good news" about how the company switched over to Kaiser. I immediately started crying. We have to switch pediatricians AGAIN. Rolan was covered under my Kaiser insurance for the first month of his life, and I didn't like either of the doctors we saw there. The first one I really couldn't stand so I changed his primary physician, and the second was a bit better but not much. When that month was up and Rolan moved over onto Clayton's Blue Sheild coverage, we signed up to see Dr. Rush in Pleasant Hill, the same doctor that Clayton's boss takes his two kids to. I took the personal recommendation on faith, and I met Dr. Rush for the first time right before we checked into Oakland Children's hospital. He was wonderful then and continued being an excellent doctor. And he helped me through that hard time. On our last visit I told him how much I appreciated him and how I thought that he could be more personable than the two Kaiser doctors in his sleep. I loved how he treated Rolan. He talked to him, asked him for permission to check his ears, and look in his mouth. He said thank you when he was done, and apologized to him for giving shots. This change will be better for us in the long run. No more $40 office visits, no more driving to Pleasant Hill for appointments. Calling for advice won't take as long anymore either. But I'm still so sad to be leaving a doctor that I trusted to take care of my baby.

I understand how you feel sweetheart. There are good doctors at Kaiser. Just remember that YOU get to choose. Ask around. Ask other mothers you know for recommendations. Ask some nurses if you can. And take Rolan in for a well baby check to check out the doctor, that way, you won't be checking one out during a crisis. Say a little prayer that you'll be directed and you will. Love you.

Thought of something else...call Dr. Rush's office and ask if he can recommend someone at Kaiser. Don't rule out Walnut Creek. It's a bit farther, but they have a pedi dept too.

I would recommend Dr. John Crockett--- He was the one who delivered Sabine and did all of her baby check ups thereafter- he was always polite and sweet with Sabine and truly cared about her progress- not just checking her out and sending us away- he always spent a few extra minutes making sure she was doing great, and making sure we were doing great with her too! Good luck :-)

Oh, I'm sorry Michele. I have pretty much given up in that department. We loved Owen's pediatrician in Santa Barbara, where he was born, and it took me about three years to find another one I liked as well in Davis. And then we moved and now we're starting again...so far I love the people at Nighttime Pediatrics, which is an urgent care, after hours place, but the regular pediatricians are just so-so. Oh wait, I loved the first one I met here and then he retired the next month. Not to leave you feeling hopeless. My mom and Estee are right, there are good doctors out there, you just have to look for them. Good luck! My friend adores her Kaiser pediatrician in Davis. The system at Kaiser is lame sometimes, but I know there are some really good people.

P.S. On the other hand, I'm thrilled that Clayton's company is so good to you guys and so proud of what a hard workin' lovin' family man Clayton is.
