He is luckily not crawling yet. We're moving into our new house in the next couple weeks and I asked him nicely to wait until then. What a sweet baby to oblige me like that. He is clapping and waving. He's got his bottom two teeth, and three on top poking in. His right fang broke through a couple of weeks ago, and the two front teeth started a couple days ago. My mom's husband decided that Fang would be his stage name. If Rolan were an 80's rocker, it would be perfect.
I substituted a couple days at the preschool while Clayton stayed home with the baby, and I think I brought back some germs because I got a cold and then Rolan got it worse. I took him to Kaiser because he had croup and this rash all over his back (which eventually spread all over his body). It was just a viral rash, and there was nothing I could do about any of it so we stayed home for awhile. That was pretty hard! I was using a bulb syring to clean out his nose a few times a day, and he would scream bloody murder. He would turn his head back and forth, push my hands away and kick his legs, so I had to develop a hold which seemed borderline torture which entailed me holding his hands with my hand, using my forarm on his jaw to hold his head in place, and use the other hand to suck his snot out. I think Rolan and I are both relieved that he's not sick anymore.
Clayton and I have been taking the baby on a few trips. We went to San Francisco a few weeks ago to the farmer's market, and then we met Lauren and Evan for lunch and a walk in Golden Gate Park. Rolan saw the ocean for the first time in Sausalito. Last weekend we spent Saturday night in Monterey and took Rolan to the Monterey Bay Aquarium. He loved looking at the fish, and he laughed at the otters. He was so good the whole trip!

Oh those motherhood holds! I remember those days. We can get pretty creative! Probably the one I think of the most was when Clayton was 18mo old and he put the end of a broken off PENCIL up his nose. I don't know where it even came from, but I had to take him to the emergency room to get it out. The doctor wrapped him in a mummy blanket with his arms straight down by his sides and his head sticking out one end and the ends of his toes the other. He couldn't move a bit. He was so mad! He screamed bloody murder and turned red in the face and was all sweaty, but the doctor got the offending item out in one seamless easy move. As soon as I released him from the blanket he was all grins again.
