We have now had 3 successful nights of Rolan sleeping in his crib, I'm am thrilled.
Sunday night was horrible. I came to bed tired, and Rolan wouldn't stop moving. I couldn't fall asleep and I was irritated, so I thought "okay, you're out of here". I put him in his crib, and of COURSE he cried profusely. I then tried to get him to sleep in our spare bed, but by this time he was awake. I started crying because I was tired and frustrated so Clayton took over. He couldn't get the baby to sleep because there was a nearby Jack Russell terrier that wouldn't stop barking. I tried again but Rolan would just lay in bed, look around, laugh at the dog barking. I decided that there was nothing more I could do so we just left him in his crib. He cried for twenty minutes fell asleep. I went in to check on him and his face was all pressed against the bars. I went to move him and he woke up, so I ended up just taking him back into my bed. It was a night full of terrible decisions on my part that ended up making myself and Clayton tired and cranky.
The next night I decided we're doing this, and doing it right. We now do a before-bed bath, and then I nurse Rolan until he gets sleepy. I put him in the crib before he falls alseep. The first night he cried for 15 minutes. Less the second. Last night he didn't cry until I walked out of the room, and then for less than 5 minutes. I've slept better, Rolan has slept better, Clayton has slept better, and I would call it a general success!

I remember those nights :-) The great news is it really only takes a few days- they are always a bit rocky but- overall you will all get through it quickly! :-)
Alas, we all make poor decisions in the middle of the night when our offspring are screaming. Believe me, I know. ;) Glad it's working out. We loved co-sleeping but we also loved getting our bed back. Although we do still get roaming kids at night who occasionally still kick us in the face in the wee hours of the morning.
Mine didn't have problems with wanting to sleep in our bed, but they each got in the habit of wanting to nurse or have a bottle in the middle of the night. I could never let them cry it out, so I ended up getting up with them until they were each at least two and a half...oh boy, am I glad those days are gone...
And I forgot to say that it sounds like you've come up with a good system :-)
